Stantec’s Buildings group in Berkley, Michigan is a 35-person studio that provides Buildings Engineering, Architecture, and Interior Design services with a long history and deep commitment to higher education. Our studio seeks an Electrical/Lighting Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will participate in the engineering, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of lighting electrical systems for a variety of projects. The candidate would be responsible for working on lighting designs, controls, energy code compliance and translating lighting design into electrical documentation. The preferred candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working collaboratively on multidisciplinary projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
Lighting intensity calculations
Energy code compliance calculations
Presentation material creation for meetings
Fixture schedules and specifications
Lighting controls intent and documentation
Development of basic project cost opinions
Develop and review mock-ups
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Client-facing presentation and communication.
Collaboration with multidisciplinary design team.
Can-do approach to project work and assignments.
Competent knowledge of and proficiency in Revit.
Familiarity with BIM applications such as SketchUp, Enscape, Navisworks, Lumion, Rhino is preferred.
Understanding of applicable building and energy codes and ability to apply them for typical project types.
Able to apply best practices of appropriate content for lighting drawings (plans, elevations, sections, and details) and specifications.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to research and present design options.
Strong prioritization and time-management skills.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator preferred.
Competent knowledge of and proficiency with AGI32and IES files.
Ability to learn and deftly navigate customized database and software applications.
Education and Experience
Bachelors' degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience designing electrical systems with a focus on lighting design.
Preferred Auxiliary Qualifications
Prior experience in the field of lighting design
IALD or IES membership
LEED or WELL accredited professional
Certified Lighting Designer (LC)
